Myth: There is a teen pregnancy epidemic.
NO WAY. Don’t listen to current affair shows!
Here are some stats for you.
- The majority of Australian teenagers giving birth are aged 18 or 19 according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
- Only 4% of births to teenage mothers were to women aged 15 years or younger.
- In 2010, for every 1000 births to women of all ages, less than 9 of those were to teenager. That's less than 1% of births are to teenage mothers.
